The King was scheduled to meet the Beatles tomorrow. They were the reason he had made the trip over to London in the first place. Of course, he also had some other reasons for taking this trip overseas—reasons that his manager knew but didn’t want to recognize. It was a chance to get away from the movie-making business for awhile. And, not only was he getting away from that business, but he was getting away from it with Priscilla. That had been the absolute deal breaker with his manger. If the Colonel hadn’t allowed him to bring her along, Elvis would still be in Hollywood, putting a smile on his face , albeit even if it was sometimes a fake one, each morning that he got up to work on another scene in one of his movies.[/color] That was one of 'Cilla's favorites; and one of his favorites as well. Those were the songs he missed doing, instead of the ones in his movies that the Colonel didn't like him spending too much time working on.
But as he roamed London's streets those thoughts were far from his mind. It was early in the evening. Most families would just be sitting down to have supper right now. Priscilla, however, hadn't been feeling that well all day and her boyfriend had left her with plenty of soup and crackers and a promise that he wouldn't be out too long tonight. The two bodyguards his manager had insisted should accompany him everywhere he went were back at the hotel.
The few fans wandering around like him had been very civil. A couple of pictures and a few autographs and they were on their way with a story that they couldn't wait to share with their family and friends. But, before word could spread and a large crowd could gather, Elvis would be somewhere else in the city. The King didn't know where exactly he was going and knew he was probably going to get lost but that was all right with him. Most of the fun and adventure (not that a pair of dark blue jeans and a black dress shirt were exactly clothes to adventure in) lay in the journey, not the destination.
And it wasn't long before he found himself in what appeared to be a quieter part of the city, although for all he knew it could have been an area that was a bustling place early in the morning or late at night. As his feet continued to carry him no one in particular, he soon found himself humming one of his earliest tunes and soon after started to softly sing it to himself. "Love me tender, love me true, all my dreams fulfill. For my darlin' I love you and I always will."
